Modern skincare is all about skin fitness. Wrinkle relaxing injections will help reduce the appearance of dynamic wrinkles and are great for these, but they don’t help with other skin changes that occur with ageing, sun damage and acne. Dermal fillers should give subtle enhancements, but you may not need fillers yet – there are other ways of strengthening and supporting your skin to restore a fresher, more youthful look.
One of the newest treatments is Profhilo, a non-cross linked hyaluronic acid injection for skin bioremodelling, which restores skin fitness from its deeper layers. It improve skin tone, hydration and radiance, and increases firmness and elasticity.
Profhilo is FDA approved and manufactured by IBSA Italia. It is the first stabilised hylauronic acid without the use of the chemical cross linking agent BDDE, and treats skin laxity and quality, not just lines and wrinkles. Profhilo is used for the face and other areas that can show signs of ageing, such as the neck and hands.
Mesotherapy is a French technique combining up to three ways of delivering active ingredients, including hyaluronic acid, vitamins and anti-oxidants, to the deeper layers of skin to nourish healthy young cells. The treatment can be applied to the face, neck, décolletage and hands. Best results are seen with a course of treatments, every two weeks for three months, supporting healthy new skin throughout its growth phase from the deeper layers to the surface.
Your skin surface will also benefit from gentle chemical peels to get that radiant glow of youth. Gentle peels done more frequently achieve great results without the downtime that used to be associated with deeper peels – and don’t worry, any redness with modern gentle chemical peels wears off so quickly that they are also known as ‘lunchtime peels’
Microneedling, with Class 1 Medical grade, FDA approved precision device works by stimulating the body’s own wound healing process to produce healthy new cells and collagen to support the skin
All of the treatments above are generally given as a course of treatments that work with the skin as it produces new cells in the deeper layers, and help with static lines over a period of time.
Dynamic lines can be relaxed with injections of the prescription-only medicine (POM), botulinum toxin A, which works by temporarily stopping muscle contractions that cause the dynamic lines. These are the lines that we see when we frown (above and between the eyebrows, the glabella, and on the forehead) and as a result of our lovely smiley expressions, around the eyes (also known as laughter lines, or crows feet). There are a few different brands used in medical aesthetics, including Azzalure, Botox, and Boccouture.
We use Botox, by Allergan, for our treatments. The benefits are seen from about 2 weeks after the injection treatment, and the effects last about 12 weeks, although some people find they last longer, and then you will require a repeat injection if you want to maintain the look. The injections also delay the onset of deeper lines, which aren’t so easily treated once they are established, although many people find their established lines start to soften after they have had a few courses of Botox.
